Woman converts to Islam in Europe

It is interesting that while European nations are considering ban on Islamic veils, the young educated women of Europe are converting to Islam and many of them are wearing veils too.

It appears that many women from Britain, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Norway, Italy, Sweden etc. have converted to Islam and the number of their conversion is rising.

It is obvious that thousands of men and women convert to Islam every year, though the exact number of such converts is not available. The number of women converts is more than that of the male converts.

Recently Lauren Booth, sister-in-law of Tony Blair, has converted to Islam. She is just one of the growing numbers of European career women who have already converted to Islam.

Women are embracing Islam owing to the reasons which very from individual to individual. However, it is clear that Islam is gradually emerging as the alternative to Western value system.

Writing

Abd Allah b. Amr said: "I used to write everything which i heard from Appostle of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) I intended (by it) to memorise it. The Quraish prohibited me saying: Do you write everything that you hear from him while the Apostle of Allah (pbuh) is a human being: he speaks in anger and pleasure? so i stopped writting and mention it to Appostle of Allah (pbuh). He singled with his finger to his mouth and said: Write by him in whose hand my soul lies only right comes out from it. " (Sunan Abu Dawud Vol. III: No. 3639)

Origin of Islamic greeting

Narrated Abu Huraira (Raziallahu anhu): The Prophet (Salallahu alaihi sallam) said, “Allah created Adam… When He created him, He said (to him), ‘Go and greet that group of Angels sitting there, and listen what they will say in reply to you, for that will be your greeting and the greeting of your offspring.’ Adam (went and) said, ‘As Salamu alaikum.’ They replied, ‘As Salamu alaika wa rahmatullah.’ So they increased ‘Wa Rahmatullah.’… (Sahih Al-Bukhari: Vol. 8: 246)

 Concept of Health

Health is the state of body and mind in which a person feels clean, refresh, cheerful, alert, energetic, active, righteous, friendly, creative, adventurous, intelligent, and charitable; and is able to act positively and productively in the affairs of life with justice, wisdom, courage and sincerity.

Health is a great blessing of Allah (Subhanau wa ta'ala). It ensures proper functioning of faculties of reason, faith, morality and knowledge. It is the basic factor in the development of mind and the growth of reason.

It is essential for a man to perform his religious, moral, social and economic obligations and to discharge his responsibilities of his society and country.

A person to be healthy in real sense of the term should, therefore, have robust body, sharp intellect, sound mind, firm will, high morale and a life full of spirit, enthusiasm, and sublime passions.

Health is valuable trust from Allah. A person should take utmost care of his health and maintain it through out of his life with sole objective to serve Allah and to carry out his spiritual, social and familial responsibilities as per the guidance of Allah.

Ban on killing of children

In Islam children have right to live with honour right from the date of their inception in their mothers' wombs. They cannot be killed neither in the wombs nor after their birth on the ground of poverty or sex.

'Slay not your children for fear of poverty We shall provide for them and for you. Lo! Killing of them is great sin.' (The Holy Qur'an: xvii: 31)

Eid-uz-Azha

M. H. Rahman

Eid–ul-Azha is a sacred festival of the Muslims. It is a pious occasion for them to express their sincere love and devotion to Almighty Allah.

In morning of the auspicious day of the Eid-ul-Azha, the Muslims of each locality assemble in the premises of their local Masjid or on a field called Idgah and offer their prayer. After the prayer they exchange greetings and embrace each other forgiving and forgetting their all differences that may have among some of them. They also give alms and Sadqah to the poor and the needy for the sake of their Lord.

After coming back to home from, Idgah, the well to do Muslims sacrifice animals in the name of Allah. The animal may be a cow or a buffalo or a camel or a sheep or a goat. About two third of the meat of the animal so sacrificed is distributed among the poor people. Allah says:

“And celebrate the name of Allah, throughout the days appointed, over the cattle which He has provided for them (for sacrifice): then eat ye thereof and feed the distressed ones in wants.” (XXII: 28)

The festival of Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated to commemorate the sacrifice made by Hazrad Ibrahim, may Allah be pleased with him, in the love of Allah Who commanded him to sacrifice his son, Ismael, may Allah be pleased with him. When Hazrad Ibrahim, may Allah be pleased with him, was about cut of the throat of his beloved son, Allah was pleased with his devotion and faith, and inspired him to sacrifice a goat instead of his son and prescribed the ritual for his flowers to be followed. Allah did not want the blood of his beloved son but wanted to see his devotion, love and sincerity he had for Him. Allah reveals:

“He (Ibrahim) said: ‘O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: Now see  what is thy view!’

(The son) said: ‘O my father! Do as thou art commanded: Thou will find me, if Allah so wills one practicing patience and constancy!’

So when they had both submitted their wills (to Allah), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (for sacrifice).

We called out to him: ‘O Ibrahim! Thou hast already fulfilled the vision! Thus indeed do We reward those who do right.’

For this was obviously a trial. And We ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice. And we left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times: ‘Peace and salutation to Abraham!”   (XXXVII: 102 – 109)

It is important to note here that Allah does not need the flesh and blood of the animal that is sacrificed but only our love, sincerity and devotion to Him. Sacrifice of animals is only a symbolic gesture. In the Holy Qur’an Allah says:

“It is not there meat nor their blood that reaches Allah: It is your piety that reaches Him.” (XXII: 37)
